SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST? MTB RIDERS FACE THE ULTIMATE
CHALLENGE AT THE LAST STOP OF RED BULL FINAL DESCENT
-- Angel Fire Resort riders challenged to break untouched 34 lap record --
WHO: Solo, Duo and Team riders, competing in Pro & Expert divisions, will push the limits in this 12-hour MTB downhill challenge. Riders can enter one event or ride all three stops in the series. Riders are expected from Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma.
WHAT: The 2nd annual Red Bull Final Descent series, a mountain biking challenge that pushes riders to the brink and back over some of the most technically challenging terrain in North America, returns this year with more riders, more competition, and more mountain.
Stops at Winter Park and Jackson Hole, WY have already tested riders’ endurance with their grueling terrains. The last stop of this year’s Final Descent will take place where it all began, at New Mexico’s Angel Fire Resort.
The format of the event is simple—riders can choose from 2-3 technical courses of varying difficulty. After 12 uninterrupted hours of extreme mountain riding, the competitor in each division with the most laps wins.
Each stop in the series offers a $5,000 cash purse plus gear from industry partners Oakely, Troy Lee and 5.10 Shoes. The overall series winners—the male and female rider who posts the most laps combined for all events—takes home an additional $500 and ultimate end-of-season bragging rights.
The Red Bull Final Descent started as “The Burner,” a 12-hour downhill mountain bike endurance race at Angel Fire and has blossomed into a competitive downhill series. For the last four years it has pushed downhill mountain bike riders to their limits. In the first year the event was conspired, 30 laps won the gold and has since progressed to 33 laps for the last two years.
This year a challenge has been pronounced across the land to riders near and far to see if they can break the 33 lap challenge and become the all time toughest endurance downhill rider to have set foot on Angel Fire Bike Park’s world renowned terrain.
