Vaujany - Classic French Alps

The French village of Vaujany in the Alps may still be fairly unknown to the masses, but that just might change very soon. Sitting on the edge of the breathtaking "Massif des Grandes Rousses", also home to the more well-known resort of Alpe d'Huez (of Megavalanche fame), Vaujany has long been a staple on the wintersports agenda. As the Rose-Vaujany team has already experienced several times, this area also has a lot to offer for the mountain bike enthusiast, which is why they have made it their homebase during the racing season. Check out this video of the team (including Rampage and DH World Cup rider Nico Vink, current European 4X Champion Katy Curd, and 4X legend Joost "The Boost" Wichman)  ripping it up on everything from the longer enduro/Avalanche-type high alpine trails, to the bermy goodness of the park sections:

The French Alps have their mega resorts, which typically are a somewhat sad study in the abuse of concrete and awful planning. Vaujany is the exact opposite - one of those retro-authentic Alpine villages where time seems to pass just a little bit slower.  And then of course there are the beautiful views...

Airing it out by the lake.

Vaujany is connected to the Alpe d'Huez lift systems, which means you have access to 2000 meters (6000 feet) of vert, and over 250km (160 miles) of trails.

Bike park berms? Check.

Sometimes you wonder if the French have a patent on that special kind of Alpine sunshine.

Vink on the rocks.

Easy to see how one might end up in a lake on a hot summer day.

Time to cool off?
