First Look: Commencal Launches New Meta TR V4.2 11

​Hot on the heels of the launch of the excellent new Meta AM V4.2 comes the TR - a similar package in shorter travel version. We threw a leg over it briefly at the Meta AM launch, and we found it to possess many of its bigger brother's qualities, with an extra dose of speed and nimbleness. And, to add to the news of the day, a certain Mr. Warner has now joined up with the Andorrans in a brand ambassador capacity - they wasted little time putting him to work launching the new bike:

I really like the geometry on this bike. The bb height and reach are pretty much right what I want. I do prefer a burlier bike, so I really wish the 4.2 had these same numbers ... I would order one immediately.

I was waiting for this one and i kind of knew, it was gonna go 140/130. Shame really, this hardly makes it worthy of a second bike, 10 mm more and it'd be good as the primary bike. With 130/120 mm it was a no brainer as an addition to an enduro (Meta AM) bike.

Also, almost 3000 € and Level TL brakes? While the last one came with Guides? Hm...

How did this one ride compared to the older V4 version? You guys did a test on the older one and mentioned it being a bit harsh if I remember? Any noticeable differences you liked or didn't like about the new one?

The previous version was was a very fun bike on the right kinds of trails. We loved its directness and playfulness, helping it carry good speed as long as the trail wasn't too harsh. It would get in over its head when things got hairy, although that is mostly to be expected from a 120mm platform. The new version takes a step in the more forgiving direction, and it also benefits from the same type of leverage ratio curve makeover as the AM V4.2 - i.e. more progressive and using a longer stroke, metric shock. This makes for a more capable bike that still retains most of the edginess of its predecessor. You do lose SOME of that very direct feedback of the V4, but we'll take the trade off in the name of feeling more confident on more trails.
