for 1300, i don't think you'll find anything new. on our latest deals page, there's a GT Fury DH bike for $2300 at jenson, that's probably the best you'll do in the new category. if you do not change your cog(s) in the rear and get a bigger sprocket, yes what you say is true. pedaling will be more difficult but you will have a higher speed before spinning out. singlespeed hubs depend on budget. here are some options from our ... more »

i would think the opposite is true. lower bars would put your weight/position forward and more over the front (your hands drop and you're closer to the front hub basically). higher bars let you get back easier (your hands are pushed back, further from ... more »
