That track is going to be insane in the predicted wet weather.

Thanks for the feedback guys. We actually had the option to try pretty well anything from Trek and chose the Fuel. With the recent surge of incredibly capable and fun short travel trail bikes we wanted to get our own experience, and Trek's geo hit the spot. Regarding the rating, were...more

Added reply in a thread Do you use climbing-specific suspension features like lock-out? 1/12/2015 5:00 PM

I don't touch my Pike at all, its always fully open. My shock stays in trail most of the time, but I'll put it into climb for fireroad climbs, and descend when there is a rough descent with no pedalling.

And interestingly he has Alpinestars on there too. I wonder if TLD is just helmets, and his clothing is Alpinestars?

Added reply in a thread Do you ride with a pack? 1/8/2015 2:35 PM

Extra stuff i carry in my big pack is a spoke key, a couple of master links, a few separate allen keys, zipties, tyre plug, CO2, a few sheets of toilet paper for outdoor "emergencies" and emergency blanket. And if its a multi-day epic, i'll add in a ... more »

Interesting... I have 2 bikes. One is a G2 DH bike with the Alfine hub as a gearbox. The other a 2x9 AM style bike. Am bike is way better suited to uphill and techy maneuvers, yet, I have ridden both on the same trails and I can get up and over more technical uphill parts...more

I ditched waterbottles about 15 years ago, after losing a few during races. I don't even have a bottle cage on my current bike, despite there being space for it. I have 3 different size packs depending on how long I'm going out for. At a minimum there ... more »

I'm guessing the 5 was chosen for versatility? Not that the 6 isn't versatile, I'm thinking that the 6 might be more "Enduro Specific" (shudder shudder)

I've had mine for more than a year now, so let me add a few other impressions. A agree with most everything you've said and will also add:
1. White became a sort-of dirty cream after a few months. And is probably a mid-white/brown now. White is not a sensible colour for an MTB shoe.
2. The ankle-guard and large tongue are very effective at trapping all sorts of trail debris. Stones, small sticks, pine-needles, mud. It all ends up in there.
3. Stiffness is good for most stuff (and perfect for downhills), and great for walking, but if you want to do a hard XC-style ride, you'll get sore feet. They're not stiff enough for that.
4. The pouch that holds the laces has gotten torn on my one shoe. Not sure how much longer that will last before it breaks open completely.

Would I buy them again? Probably not. Shimano has just released some awesome-looking new "enduro" type shoes, so I'll give those a try next time.
