There's supposed to be some considerable resistance. That's what prevents chain slap. Will it not move forward at all? Even when you press hard?

If jumps and gravity is your main focus, look for a solid 26-inch rig. Far more fun on that type of stuff.

What fork do you currently have? PUSH definitely improves the performance of everything they touch, especially if it has been a while since your last proper service.

You're looking at a decrease of 2-inches on your top tube. That's a huge difference. At 5'9", I wouldn't recommend it. You'll definitely feel cramped.

Hey bud. Bikes are spec'd with forks of a specific travel for a reason. That said, you could likely put a 140mm fork on there without impacting the geometry too much. Anything longer than 140/150mm and the bottom bracket may get so high that it impacts ... more »
