Hey w4s, I no longer have the Tues in the garage, so I can't verify the pressures for you. We've seen shock pumps with poor calibration off as much as 15psi in the past, so that may have some influence here. The pressure reading is a little meaningless, however. The important part is that you end up at 30% sag. Use that as your baseline and go up/down as needed. Happy tuning!

Right on! I'd suggest you grab yourself a 50mm length stem and some bars with a decent amount of rise. This will make the transition back and forth between the BMX and MTB a little easier. I run these but cut down to ~750mm width: http://www.jensonusa.com/Spank-Spike-800-Race-50mm-Rise-Handlebar?cs=White ... more »

In general most Medium bikes are settling into the 420-435mm reach range, while Larges are 440-460mm. Bikes that haven't seen a redesign in the past 2-3 years are typically shorter than that.

At 5'10" tall with longish arms, my preferred reach is in the 430-440mm range paired with a 50mm stem.

Not that I'm aware of. Are you trying to determine what reach value would be good for you, or simply to compare several bikes?

In addition to a single bottle on my frame, for long rides I also use a flexible bottle or two in my SWAT vest/bibs. These ones are pretty rad: http://hydrapak.com/shop/softflasks/softflask-500ml

We reached out to FOX to get your question answered:

"No. The FIT4 and RC2 use different damper designs with different adjustment options so they don’t use the same shim stack. But with the RC2’s large range of high- and low-speed compression tuning options, a rider should be able to closely match the tune of the FIT4."

With higher descending, fun, and value ratings, the Evil was deserving of a higher overall rating. There's no denying that we prefer a bike that descends great (as do the majority of Vital readers), but also recognize those that climb amazingly well. Both are rad rides in their own ways.

Evil Following
Climbing: 3 stars - Good
Descending: 4.5 stars - Outstanding
Fun Factor: 4.5 stars - Outstanding
Value: 4 stars - Excellent
Overall Impression: 4.5 stars - Outstanding

Pivot Mach 429 Trail
Climbing: 5 stars - Spectacular
Descending: 3.5 stars - Very Good
Fun Factor: 4 stars - Excellent
Value: 3.5 stars - Very Good
Overall Impression: 4 stars - Excellent

The vast majority of DH gear began as moto gear, and over time various features (like leather inner thighs) were stripped in an effort to make them lighter and more directly applicable to DH. We still see those moto roots today in many of the designs.

Personally, I can't see going back after wearing the Demo Pro pants. The freedom of movement and ventilation they allow is excellent, though there is of course a tradeoff. Knee pads serve as a more robust/reliable form of protection under the pants, while the pants themselves have a fabric that's durable enough to withstand crashes without being overly thick and restrictive. Just like a lot of outdoor apparel has advanced over the years to produce lighter and more flexible fabrics that still hold up, I think Specialized has found a better solution for mountain bikers.

Yes, Mattcubed, we've done several long adventures aboard these tires. Following the review I switched back to a Specialized Slaughter rear in search of a bit more rolling speed, but I'm keeping the e*thirteen up front for super mega hella grip in the turns and while braking. Out of curiosity I weighed both the 29-inch Slaughter and e*thirteen, and the Slaughter came in a bit heavier.

870g - 29x2.3" Specialized Butcher GRID
