Much respect. Photo coverage is by far the best way to feel the vibe of the race/place/trail etc. Keep up the good work and looking forward to another wonderful year of race coverage.

Thanks Ian for the great insight. Last question: I know a bike is a sum of all it's parts, but are you feeling that the long chainstay has a particular effect on the handling of the bike (i.e. harder to pull up or to manual)??

Hall Ranch classic shots! That place has one of the most fun and diverse loop I've ever done.

Great review btw, thanks! I wonder how it stacks up against the new Mattoc by Manitou. Hope Vital will have a review down the line also.

Pretty sure Graves always rode small bikes in the Sea Otter "dh" race. He is the ultimate small bike shredder, coming from a 4x, bmx background. I remember he used to say how he was doing full on shuttle runs on his 4x hardtail to maximize speed and line choice on a small bike.

If anybody can do it on a small bike, it's him. Didn't Lopes do well in Australia with a small bike also in 2010?

Added a comment about news blog Enduro World Series Update: Unauthorized Shuttling? 8/14/2013 7:32 AM

Creek Side is a 'sub division' in the actual village of Whistler. It's about 4,5km from the actual village. So what he said is that he drove from Creekside to Function (another sub-division located at the entrance of the Whistler area) and that he made his way up the stage through the usual trails. Hardly a penalty IMHO, as it's impossible to shuttle those trails anyway.

Teething problems with EWS, but it's all gonna be forgotten in a couple of weeks

I wonder why they didn't run the 1st stage chainless and do a stagger start on stage 5 based on accumulated times of the previous stages? I did the race last year with that format and it was hella fun + mixed things up a bit.

Good review!

I must say though I had a V1 for a full year of riding and loved it. Of course it had those wonky bush issues that made a pain in the ass to always service the thing.

So I got the V2 as warranty deal/replacement. I bolted everything on it and went for a couple rides. I just couldn't wrap my head around this new iteration of the frame. It felt too big, too tankish for my taste. The older one had less travel and was easier to throw around. It also worked better with a 140mm fork. The V2 felt really undergunned with a 140. And it's hella planted. I consider myself pretty good in the manual department and that V2 needed a GOOD yank to pull the front end proper. My V2 build with a pike came around 34 pounds.

I ended selling it to a happy fellow and now riding a TRC, which is like the old Spitty, but lighter and with a shorter chain stay.
