Isn't there a new helmet from Bell/Giro that has a external shell that is design to slide away during twisting impacts like this?

Right, theres always more than one way to skin a cat, I would be curious to see back to back comparisons between both products, see which is more accurate, and which is more easily used with their corresponding app.

I wonder how this compares to that other kickstarter that used shock pressure to monitor suspension usage, (ShockWiz)

Added a comment about product review Trek Fuel EX 9 Review ... Swing and a miss 1/26/2015 2:06 PM
C50_yeti_big_1403290056

I have also rode the remedy as well, and I would agree that I like that bike more, but if trek were to come out with a version of this bike with a slightly slacker head angle I would prefer that over the remedy, as I felt the Remedy was a bit sluggish while climbing. At this point (over a year since i reviewed this bike) there are tons of bikes that fill that category (shorter travel 29ers with agressive angles), from transition, banshee, evil and even specialized with their EVO camber. Which is a bike that Trek is still lacking, and should have in their arsenal.

Additionally, with a 51mm offset fork, and a potentially an alternative fork that has more mid-stroke support, like a pike or RS-1, this bike may ride way better, but, that is not the stock build, and therefore I did not review it.

But I would disagree pretty strongly against your statement that anything less that 69.5 degree head angle would make the bike feel like a chopper. All of the bikes mentioned earlier are in the same travel range, and have much slacker angles (Evil Following has a claimed HA of 67.2 degrees), and most, if not all of those bikes have gotten stellar reviews. My personal experience is from riding a Banshee Prime, 130mm travel trail bike. I normally run that bike in the slack head angle which puts the HA at 67.5 (claimed), with a 46mm offset fork, and I think it corners awesome. I wouldnt say that I have ever noticed it behaving like a chopper, and I believe that there are tons of people that would agree with that statement.

Added reply in a thread Do you use climbing-specific suspension features like lock-out? 1/13/2015 9:19 AM

I will if its a long climb, really like the climb switch on my DB-inline, and I tend to keep the rear shock on my other bike in trail mode most of the time, unless there is a long fire road climb or non-technical climb

I've ridden one of the first Alloy ones earlier this year, and my local shop has a carbon demo ready to be built up. The alloy version was a bit on the heavy side, and a bit sluggish on the climbs. Climbing was fine, and had tons of traction but acceleration was a bit slow. On the downhills the bike felt like a mini downhill bike, almost scary fast. I think the alloy version would be awesome for a gradual climb, like up a fire road (like what youd see all over the PNW), and then a long descend. Around my local trails it was a bit of a pig, since they are short uphills and short downhills. I'm hoping that the shedded weight of the carbon version will alloy it to perform a little better.

I just noticed the bike is finally on the review page, and ill do the full write up tonight, with pics and such.

I've ridden the RC, it handles descending amazing, and climbs ok for how much the stock weight is. I've been waiting for the bike to pop up on the products section so I can do a full review. Ya along the lines that Roots_rider said, the Spartan is almost scary fast.

A 148mm rear hub spacing? Why oh why wouldn't a 150mm rear hub spacing work? Were those annoying, extra 2mm just too heavy?

So do you guys ever claim the gear as a starter pistol in a locked case, so it doesn't get opened, and is handled more gently?
