Added a comment about press release SR Suntour Gets Rémy Absalon on Board! 12/20/2013 1:14 PM

"he is also planning to shift his focus towards Enduro" what's that bullshit story?!? Rémy's been having great success in DH marathon for sure but he's always been an enduro rider, locking bunch of victories and a few overall of the french series, including ahead of the now very well known Clementz...
As for his participation to the Mega this year i'm not sure. Isn't it the same week end than an EWS? If he's good at the overall I doubt he'll skip it

Sounds like Rémy started Enduro with the EWS! But he's been winning the overall of the French Series a couple of times, and a bunch of Enduro races!

I don't think that's the issue, as big brands already have their hands in the EWS. There's a board composed of riders and industry guys (I can only remember of a SRAM guy being in it but I think they are 3, just like the number of riders who are Moseley, Clementz and Keen).
For me the problem is more the competition that may happen between UCI and EWS that will suck fr the riders as they will at some point have to decide which race series they ride. It's like it's been some years ago in the snowboarding world. Riders are not the winners. That's not good.

I have the best enduro fork on earth (and around): BOS Deville, featuring 20 mm axle. How do I fit your "enduro" wheels on it?

Safety is not the reason why the first run is not timed: french Enduro Seires has always been ridden blind for the first of 3 (or 4) runs on a same course. And we've never seen more crashes and injuries during the first run. Actually the opposite...
As for Dan Atherton already saying even before the start of the first run he has no chances because the course is known from other riders (from previous seasons), I would say it's a pretty lame excuse. He could have raced in the french series last year but never did. why? The whole EWS was known to happen!
Looking foreward to the EWS of Val d'Isère which will also be ridden semi-blind as the course will be new to everybody. No excuse there Mr Atherton.
This ruling is a pity as instead of having 10 000 m timed DH runs, it's gonna be trickled down to 5-6000m. And that for safety? No! just under pressure of some ex-DH and ex-XC riders that made the transition to Enduro but have never been racing blind. EWS please spot trickle down the sport!

Finally some real enduro! Now we'll see who's a real enduro rider and who's only an ex-downhiller!

You're right saying it's a risky game they WOULD play (cause we'll never know the truth!). But who signed a contract with who? And who brought the more money in? I guess Gwin signed with TWR, so Trek. And Shimano has a contract with TWR (here also it's a guess!). Just the way I see it.
And blaming some "old prototype" won't have the same impact on sales. Actually they would have claimed that one brake would have failed I would have bought it, despite the lame press release trying to minimize the importance of a world champ title. But both brakes?? Just sayin
The only thing that puzzles me is Gwin saying he did suffer a mechanic. But before or after crash?

Mmmmmm... real and official sound quite opposite thing to me! Not that I am a fan of the "plot theory", but it sounds more like they wanna hide something. Both brakes failing simultaneously, not being powerful enough for the rest of the run and NOTHING noticeable at post-race inspection? Sure a mechanical can always happen and that's unfortunate. But this one is particularly wierd...
Gwin will get the stripes once, and probably more than once even. I think he deserves that. But that story about the brakes, I have a hard time believing that. Just my personal opinion though.
And official press release are just made to make the truth sound as you want it: minimizing the importance of world championships, saying Gwin was happy with 4th in timed practice (he apparently was a bit pissed with it from what we heard)...

Don't worry, I don't believe in perfect bikes being perfect in any conditions! I know it's always a question of compromise and priorities. But I was just asking as I wasn't very sure of the outcome of "my" analysis.
I look forward to giving it a try!

Agree with the first part. But the second? Unless you talk about races in US or UK, you might be well wrong. But Specialized as well: 160 mm with air shock is the key! in other word, the "standard" and well named Enduro!

Sure we're all focusing on weight but I do agree with Keith that weight/tyres weight is WAY more important on a long climb (unless you carry your bike of course!). It's not an opinion but a physical fact. But a low center of gravity will not make your whip any easier.
Nevertheless 8.5lbs on a L size (just guessing) would clearly be too much. I want a substential difference between my DH bike and enduro/all-mountain one. It shouldn't be too difficult considering that my Commençal isn't that light, but if I start building up a 8.5 lbs frame I may have to get ruined with carbon rims and Ti screws all-over!

I may have reacted a little too fast... I hadn't seen the actual seat angle which is steeper than on the rocky yet with smaller offset. But I guess it's gonna be steep enough for the tall guy I am!
And you're also right about the anti-squat effect which was close to 0 on the slayer resulting in a more compressed suspension and apparent flatter seat angle!
About antisquat, I made (well a software did...) an analysis of it, based on a picture (so it's a little inacurate). But it seems the antisquat is really high when using a small chainring upfront is that correct? I would probably mount if with a 28-30 single chainring.
Last but not least (yes I'm superficial!): any chance you react to the non-overwelming enthusiasm about the graphics? I'm not that keen on them either to give my 2 cent opinion.
But I really look forward to try it!
Oh, I was about to forget: weight?

Damn! I thought I had found my new bike you just ruined my hope with this link!
Seat Angle of 70,5 actual or 73 effective but I have an old slayer with the same "effective seat angle" and as soon as I ride in a steep uphill my bike wants to back-flip! Those angles are reasonable for anyone below 6 foot. Obviously not many bike designers are taller than that
I'll go for a test ride though. Who knows...
