Added reply in a thread Should the World Cup Downhill season have more races? 10/16/2014 4:30 PM

With some of the Pacific rounds its not cost effective to do just one, the money logisitcs to come to NZ and Aus really requires both, hence why 2015 is not coming down under! NZ had funidng for the next 2 years and I believe Aus has 2016/17 sorted so ... more »

Wrong question keeps being asked, its not how you reduce costs or constraints, thats down to good planning budgeting and management! The question everyone should be asking is why and how is the UCI and all other bodies charged with the management and ... more »

Added a comment about feature Sneak Peek: 2015 DVO Topaz Air Shock 9/23/2014 4:35 PM

Have you tried a Vector HLR, solves all those issues, Ive run mine on a number of bikes now, it does not need a 3 way pos adj, the DHXa, Float X and Monarch don't come close, Im finding it ironic that guys riding the new Nomad now want 3 way adj shocks to firm up the ride I presume between stages!

Will definitely watch this with interest I like DVOs approach to user serviceability and support, none better at this.
A website with actual useful information for example, just not sure if this shock is a step in the right direction, maybe the bladder technology will be way superior to IFPs, just have to wait and see and keep an open mind, though I have no real push to change shock, I love my Vector .

Very nicely done.

Btw re route that front disc brake cable to the inside of the leg, like the cable guide is designed to do. Before the first crash rips thay hose out of the caliper. LBS who built it should know better.

Great details.

Not the first or last time any one, ever and in any sport wins a race because of other rider's mistake or bad luck. That doesn't make the win any less significant.

Added a comment about product review Tested: Atlas Crank Carbon Neck Brace 9/5/2014 1:28 PM

As Roots said re Helmet, I notice you wearing an older style Helmet most of which are pre neck brace designs.

First thing in choosing any protective equipment must be design compatibility, the neck brace has a function, if you are going to use outdated Helmets pre neck brace era then you are going to compromise its ability to fit correctly and more importantly do its job if the worse should happen.

Also fudging the fit like you have in my opinion is not the best example to potential people reading this review, why people should go to professionals to get fitted and take theyre helmets and get properly fitted and compatible advice.

Reading your initial comments about the Leatt in comparison is also very skewed being a non bike model MX and is quite outdated to the what are we up to now ver 6 bicycle model now. Of course it wont fit as well and even more so with that helmet pictured. Bicycle model of that era had different padding, but now Leatt has specific bicycle models.

Im pointing this out for no agenda other than I see read allot of misinformation and some conflicting info here, not deliberate but easy to do and not apples for apples that affect people making valuable decisions on equipment they haven't researched properly or correctly, what they do after that is they're business.

Having broken my neck and spent 3 years of my life researching everything neck and helmet related reading forums about crap opinions and little fact and having first hand experience pre and post crash with and without a neck brace I feel pretty qualified to debate this topic.

And after watching a TV show 2 nights ago where a kid top junior DH rider, broke his neck on a gap jump not wearing a neck brace and his buddy who he followed in was wearing a neck brace but did not crash, his post comments while wearing a Halo brace 2 months in hospital really hit home again, no matter how good you think you are this can happen to anyone anytime anywhere, the strain it puts on family friends and the injured is something more of all ages need to consider. Im still amazed b y the ignorance out they're shown by people

But more importantly its not just the device, its getting this area correctly sized, fitted and combined with what you have or may need to step up to, so you actually get what you are trying to achieve.

Pay a bit extra, get professionally fitted and kitted, we ride because its risky, but few of us jump out of a plane without a parachute or an instructor we get professional help!

Minimise risk, ride loose be as safe as it can be with current technology skills and common sense if that applies to us breed of Mountain bikers that love Downhill, go hard, shit can happen, be prepared for the unexpected, thats what bites you, not the 99% expected we all think we know.

That said I have been considering this brace as an update, but am finding it hard to go past current brand I trust and is proven but its time to upgrade.

Cough cough 41+ lbs, love the value concept but anything over 40 these days is not fun, I wonder what other frames could have been substituted to equal or better that value.
Base model Summun in USD could easily match that price for example and with a good specc
And under 37lbs stock, I thought this could have been lower considering the frame and brand, understand it was a poll and value is not the same thing as cheapest, but is this still value? When I compare it to the Summun stock no, better lighter frame, parts easily upgradeable when they break or worn out and lets face it we've all done that in our careers, its the value way to do it, but imo always start with the best frame possible! Everything is easy to upgrade over time, frame you are stuck with and thats not cheap to replace each time as an upgrade. 2: Suspension, 3: Wheels, 4: Brakes, 5: Tranny, 6: cockpit in that order, thats been my advice to people and myself over the years, I had a guy the other day tell me Ive never let him down yet in upgrades and advice. Probably cause I make the mistakes myself to find what works haha

Great project though and many options, thats probably the best thing these days people do have options if they research well know what they need vs what the want for they're riding conditions and abilities.

Possibly another thing that could be done is a comparison with same frame with the cheapest options then review as to why the value option works out to be a cost saving over a season or too inclu performance!

Added a comment about video Kid vs Downhill Mountain Biker 8/19/2014 3:12 PM

While I don't want to see kids hurt, this is increasing due to success of ride parks areas etc, but no increase in education, self responsibility, signage, (though I personally hate too much of that) and poor parenting, if you take kids in you take them out, care and educate them, they are put at risk as is everyone else, Unfortunately this is not just little kids, big kids us are becoming just as big an issue, min fact the dam baby boomers are the worst, stopping at entrances to trails, blocking exits and standing in blind spots of the trail talking about how last nights wine fondooey thing dinner was.
Not all about little kids. Modern MTBers do not follow the un written code of self awareness respect for the trails others and common sense. It died with illegal trails unfortunately, blame the same muppets for that too. Strava holes!

He's become the next Cedric Gracia and is now about fun, not results, much sooner than CD and CD never whined so much, you only have to look at Hart, especially Bryceland they were all similar flat pedalled riders, but worked hard on they're weaknesses and its been paying off, he also had the best mentors in the business, Im a Brendog fan but he's just not done the work, we all want tracks like this all the time, but you have to be adaptable to be a World Champ and elite athlete. So no excuses, surprising thing is when tracks have gotten mean his results have not improved much anyway, he's been left behind unfortunately, talents only good if you use it effectively.

Definitely not a one-line track...should be interesting.

I hope they plan on taping the course up before the race. Otherwise, Eddie Masters is going to enduro the shit out of that top section!
