`gotcha. I always find these "look at this light bike!" things really funny when it comes from a bike company. The only part that makes this bike different than what any weenie can build is the frame and shock. So lets compare weights of frame + shock: then you know what is the lightest bike you can build with whatever parts you want. That said: welcome to the end of race season vital fans.

To clarify: we started out making a "DH 800 bar" and an AM760 bar with the same rise and sweep. they were both 35mm clamp diameter. They were different molds, different laminate and different strength requirements. During testing, we found out that the DH bar was stiffer than we wanted, so we worked on the laminate to get it less stiff. As we worked through it, it became clear we could make an 800 at the AM weight spec, and reach the DH test requirement. We scrapped the DH bar tooling, and modified the AM760 mold to make 800mm width. We ended up with the DH strength requirement, the stiffness we wanted, and making the "DH" bar 42 grams lighter than our target. At that point, we just called it AM since its specced on the Nomad. Semantics really, we'll spec that same bar on a V10 as well since it hits the test requirement for DH. the "TR760" is the same laminate, but 40mm narrower.

Chris Ball and Stu Thomson took a group of us on some of the Innerleithen trails last year after the Glentress 7. So steep! in the rain it must be insane racing on that. Wish I was there.

What an incredible weekend to experience, just catching up on the slideshows now with norte americano internet speeds. The riding, racing, incredible group of people and late night pisco sours will not be something I'll forget anytime soon. It really is as good as the slideshows capture.

Added a comment about feature How Much Money Does a Bike Mechanic Make? The Answer May Surprise You 2/10/2014 11:33 PM

this is cool, thanks for sharing Donny. I think Brandon's caption is good food for thought too: "consider brightening your mechanic's day with a tip next time he does his magic". You think nothing of throwing 20% at a crappy waiter because its expected, do the same for your favorite wrench. Remember those guys work the weekend days that you're out riding, and they don't come up with the pricing of parts or labor.

I am a bike mechanic, $8000 bikes are in general, are easy to fix. It is unnecessary to charge more than 80 bucks for a tune up on that bike because you could work on it all day long and charge 1000 bucks but at the end of the day its only going to get marginally better...more

I can design many things out of various materials such as lincoln logs, natural and organic logs found in one's home, toothpicks and matchsticks... with the flammable material removed from the organic logs, of course.
