Fabien, you listened to your body and the pain you were experiencing which is good, but always check in with the medics and a doctor after a bad crash. They're trained professionals who can find something you've missed. Thank God you did not get paralyzed. I would strongly consider wearing a back plate from now on. With the speed people carry these days it's just too gnarly not to wear one... besides - no one has ever received a crash replacement for their spine. Rest easy, and heal up soon!

I approve of this recovery but the video needs more knee brace. =) C'mon now - let's be careful out there. When I'm not delivering justice to the four corners of the world with the righteousness of my round-house kicks, I stay in shape by riding and racing downhill. To ensure that I retain the ability to kick a person in the soul, protection is paramount. For example, before every run I always put on two knee pads, two elbow pads, a back plate, a helmet and a condom. You can never be too safe out there...

I fully approve of and endorse Chris Kovarik.

Need a new downhill track? Invite Chris Kovarik to your local mountain, place him where you want the start gate, then point and tell him "That way." He should have it finished in 3 to 5 minutes depending on tectonic shift / continental drift.

Hang in there kid. Focus on recovery and then ride at your own pace in a step by step progression. A good racer is compelled to evaluate what has happened during a crash so they can apply what they have learned. If you block out the distractions and do these things, the speed will come - with fewer injuries. Most importantly: Have fun, and have a clean run. =)

I approve of this win, and endorse Becky Gardner. The only thing faster and more deadly than this side-kick is Becky Gardner ripping a berm.

...the only thing that looks more badass than this bike is my fight scene with Bruce Lee in "Way of the Dragon".

I like the creativity here, especially with the aforementioned floating kicker over the water at the bottom. This looks awesome in every way.

The lake jump option at the end of a run should become a new standard.

Never said anything about any other designer, we are talking about Dave. Of course most if not all bike designers went to school, and I'm sure most of them ride. But it appears that some of them don't want to work very hard, so they just copy what someone else did. Just because you go to...more

Copying actually stifles innovation in the long run, and in your proposed model shifts the balance of power to those already at the top (Giant, Trek, Specialized, etc... anyone with the capacity to copy and produce on a large scale at low cost and with substantial marketing force). Dave did...more

Added a comment about feature First Look: Prototype Five Ten Maltese Light SPD Shoes 1/14/2013 5:19 PM

I think it's a good start, but needs some work. As previously mentioned, the strap over the lower forefoot is going to be really uncomfortable when it is pulled tight.
Does anyone remeber the Adidas Hematomas? THOSE things were the gold-standard in clipless DH shoes. They had 3 well-placed velcro straps over the instep, ankle bone pads there were like an internal cuff, AND an armored toe box. A very hard, tough plastic/composite capped the toe area like the steel toes of a pair of Doc Martens. I think this last bit was a great idea becuase occasionally toes would hit rocks, esp. w/ a bike that has a low BB. I realize this isn't what the design goal is for the Maltese Light, but it would be nice to see something like the Hematoma back on the market again - armored toe box and all.
