neimbc, that's one of the reasons why they etched the metal surface. Over time the post would have developed impressions from the metal on metal contact. After etching the post, the impressions are already there, that way it will continue to look good. The etches also help hold the post, although I was told they weren't necessary. I'll be sure to update you guys after I get sufficient time on the post.
And +1 for the seat chair bit, although we'd all look goofy with wheelie chairs strapped to our bikes
